India’s Exports Improved in August: US Remains Top Market
In August 2026, exports of Indian goods improved to $43.81 billion, up 26.1% compared to last year. Last year, Indian exports stood at $34.74 billion. This reduced the trade deficit to $26.86 billion, as merchandise imports still stood at $70.67 billion.
Major Export Markets of India
- The US became the largest market for Indian products. Even though additional tariffs were introduced by the US in July, exports to the US increased by 21.83% in August 2026. India’s exports to the US were recorded at $8.4 billion.
- India’s exports to China also increased by 52.35%. Exports to China have expanded to $1.9 billion in August 2026. As exports to China increase, India can achieve more balanced trade with China. Currently, India is facing a trade deficit, and China is the main reason behind it. China’s exports to India are still as high as $12.77 billion in August.
- India’s trade with Singapore also saw a significant increase. Indian exports soared by 160.96% in August 2026 to $1.9 billion.
- India's exports to the UAE were also recorded at $2.4 billion. Although exports to the UAE have been reduced due to the Middle East Crisis, trade between these nations is helping India to expand its market.
Major Products Exported by India
Engineering products reached $12.32 billion in exports, up 24.86%. In comparison, India exported around $9 billion last year.
Petroleum products exports also increased to $6.81 billion, a rise of 63.27%.
Exports of electronic goods jumped 89.82% to $5.55 billion. It became one of the fastest-growing export categories for India in August 2026. Electronic goods exports in the year 2025 stood at $2.93 billion.
Exports of chemicals, whether organic or inorganic, also increased sharply to $2.80 billion. This showed a hike of 16.38%.
Textile exports also increased to $1.12 billion this year. Exports of cotton yarns, handloom products, fabrics, etc. increased by 13.79%.
Some other products that contributed to India’s exports include Iron Ore (126.3%), Handicrafts (29.63%), Marine Products (27.76%), Coffee (17.08%), Rice (4.12%), and more.
