1.) IEC – Import Export Code number is necessary to enter the world of international trade, whether for export or import.
2.) IEC is a distinctive number the concerned authority gives to an importer/exporter.
3.) One person/firm/company qualifies for one IEC number. Those who are in good health apply to obtain an IEC number.
4.) One has to apply before the concerned JDGFT to obtain an IEC number for Export / Import.

In case the applicant is a partnership firm, apart from the above requisites following is also essential:
1.) Self-attested copy of partnership deed
2.) An authority in favor of the partner to act on behalf of the firm for gaining IEC is also necessary
3.) Details of directors at the time of applying for IEC number
4.) Resolution in favor of a director to act on behalf of the company for obtaining IEC number
THE REQUISITES TO APPLY FOR THE IEC NUMBER ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Application Form NO. ANF2A, duly filled, in duplicate.
Bank Certificate with attested photo, as per Appendix 18A of Form
Two passport size photographs of the applicant
Copy of pan card number
Draft of Rs. 250/- favoring concerned JDGFT
Self-addressed envelope duly stamped with Rs. 30/-stamp
EPCG (EXPORT PROMOTION CAPITAL GOODS) LICENSE
ZERO DUTY EPCG: With this scheme, an exporter is allowable to import New Capital goods (CKD/SKD) comprising computer software systems at zero Customs duty subject to an export obligation corresponding to 6 times of duty saved on capital goods Imported under the scheme, to be satisfied over 6 years reckoned from the date of issue of License.
CONCESSIONAL 3% DUTY EPCG SCHEME: With this scheme, an exporter is allowable to import New Capital goods (CKD/SKD) with computer software systems at 3% Customs duty subject to an export obligation equal to 8 times of duty saved on capital goods Imported under the scheme, to be satisfied over an era of 8 years reckoned from the date of issue of License.
