Rising Global Demand for Indian Kitchen Staple Food

Rising Global Demand for Indian Kitchen Staple Food

In financial year 2026, India is seeing a rising global demand for Indian kitchen staple food. Products like pickles, jams, curry pastes, and seasonings are seeing rising demand abroad. Exports of these products have nearly doubled this year and could rise further if India can address post-harvest losses. For fiscal year 2026, India has crossed $576 million in kitchen staple food exports. The USA has again become the biggest import market for Indian products, followed by the UAE, UK, Saudi Arabia, Canada and Australia. Demand for India’s authentic flavours continues to grow each year globally.

Indian Food Products Gaining Global Demand

  1. Honey’s demand has shown strong growth of 105%. It rose from $100 million in FY20 and exceeded $206 million in FY26. The demand for honey in the global market has doubled in around 6 years. The USA was the biggest importer of Indian honey; more than 70% of honey was exported there. Exports to the UAE stood at 9% and to Saudi Arabia at 3%.
  2. Condiments and seasonings exports rose from $48 million in FY19 to $113 million this year. Condiments and seasonings exports have shown more than double growth, which could increase further in the coming years. The USA proved to be the number 1 destination for Indian condiments and seasonings. It was followed by China and the UAE.
  3. Spices and spice products were also popular this year, with exports reaching $4.43 billion in financial year 2026. The exports have increased by up to 22%. In FY20, these exports were $3.6 billion. The USA was again the biggest importer of spices and spice-related products. China and the UAE followed as the biggest importers of Indian goods.
  4. FY26 also recorded exports of jams and jellies, adding $109 million to Indian exports. Exports of pickled fruits and vegetables stood at $106 million. In addition, tomato sauces also went global this year and recorded $11 million in exports.

Conclusion

As global demand for Indian goods is rising, India could soon come out of its trade deficit. Indian staple foods are attracting several countries due to their purity and authenticity. These exports can also help India to focus more on its agriculture sector and strengthen it. With over $576 million in kitchen staple food exports, India is moving toward becoming a global exporter.
