India Chile Announce New Trade Partnership Initiatives

Having reached $6.25 billion in the 2025-26 Fiscal Year, India Chile Announce New Trade Partnership Initiatives as talks advance to upgrade India-Chile trade ties into a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

Henceforth, India is looking to secure stable supply chains and preferential access to essential minerals like copper, lithium, and molybdenum.

With this in mind, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal is visiting South America to fast-track these advanced negotiations alongside trade talks in Argentina and Brazil.

Moreover, the agreement expands its scope beyond goods to include digital services, investment promotion, and agricultural cooperation.

    • Imports from Chile: Copper, lithium, iodine, and agricultural goods (wine, fruits) are the major imports from Chile.
    • Exports from India: Pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, chemicals, automobiles, and IT services are the main exports from India.
    • Strategic Focus: This initiative will help secure sustainable supply chains for critical minerals essential for India’s clean energy and electronic manufacturing targets.

  • With talks focused on securing stable supply chains for critical minerals like lithium and copper, the India – Chile Bilateral Trade Pact offers duty concessions on thousands of tariff lines.

  • Furthermore, both sides aim to elevate the pact into a full economic partnership covering services, investments, and MSMEs.
